Obituary of Paul Flesner

Paul E. Flesner, 74, Wheeling, Illinois died suddenly on January 1, 2016 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday, January 8th at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. (2 Blocks South of Dundee Road) A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9th at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Prospect Heights, Illinois.
Paul was born on September 21, 1941 to Dorris and Ruth (Flack) Flesner in Clayton Center, Iowa. His growing up years were spent in Valparaiso, Indiana and St. Paul, Minnesota. Paul graduated from Carthage College, received his divinity degree from Northwestern Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota and was ordained on June 6, 1967.
Paul married Myrtis Niederbaumer on April 16, 1966. Paul’s first call was a mission church at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Naperville, Illinois. After 10 years, he took a second call to Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield, Illinois. His last call was to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Prospect Heights, Illinois. After 38 years in the ministry, Paul retired in 2005.
Paul had a zest for life that was contagious and his laughter and presence filled a room. He pursued many passions at various times in his life including, photography, woodworking, gardening, camping, racquetball, piano and guitar playing, and computers. Above all, his abiding faith in God and his love for his family sustained him.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Julie (Dean) Bacon, Rock Island, Illinois and Joy Sourou, Cary, Illinois; granddaughters Jessica, Claire, and Anna Bacon, Giselle and Alexie Sourou; father of Giselle and Alexie, Franck Sourou. He is also survived by his brother David Flesner, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and his sister, Lois (Art) Goetz, Sun City West, Arizona; nieces Carolyn and Diana Flesner.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Dorris and Ruth, and his wife Myrtis in 2003.
