Obituary of George Sorensen

George R. Sorensen, 87, of Buffalo Grove and Lighthouse Point, Fla., died Sunday, May 22, at his Buffalo Grove residence.
Mr. Sorensen was born May 4, 1929, to Emil and Susan (DeMichele) Sorensen in Chicago. He attended the University of Illinois and the University of Miami. After service in the U.S. Army as a radio officer during the Korean War, he became a real estate broker and later, a U.S. Postal Service employee.
Mr. Sorensen had a passion for golf, swimming and reading, and spent his winters in Florida for more then 40 years.
He married Barbara (nee Bachta) in November 1990; they celebrated their their 25th wedding anniversary in the past year. She survives.
He was born into a close-knit family and grew up in Chicago and in the Lincoln Estates area of Frankfort. He is survived by his brother, Emil “Bud” (late Joan) Sorensen, and was preceded in death by his brother Donald (Beverly) Sorensen.
Mr. Sorensen was an amazing uncle to his seven nieces and nephews: Karen Sorensen, Robert (Laura Sorensen), Laura (Alan) Kasper, Eric (Celeste) Sorensen, Janet (Benjamin) Hoz, David Sorensen and Susan (Robert) Holt. He is also survived by 11 great-nieces and -nephews.
Funeral prayers will be said at 9:45 a.m. Friday at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Buffalo Grove. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
