Obituary of Richard "Dick" Moody
Richard was born on October 11, 1940 in St. James, Minnesota to the late Olga and Aldie Moody. He attended St. James High School where he was Salutatorian, Class President, a multi-sport athlete, and Sports Editor. Richard studied Mathematics at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN while involved with many activities including serving as President of his fraternity. He earned a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Michigan before embarking on a successful career.
In 1964, Richard married Beverly Wolner and began his career with IDS in Minneapolis. He went on to serve his country as an Officer in the U.S Public Health Service for two years as a Statistician. Richard was hired as an Actuary at Hewitt Associates in 1968, became a Partner, and remained there until his retirement in 1995 at the age of 55. He cherished his many relationships and was admired for his bright mind, remarkable work ethic, sense of humor, and kindness. These qualities were also apparent in Richard’s philanthropic support where he gave generously of his time, treasure, and talents to the Lutheran church and many local and global needs.
During his retirement Richard loved spending time with family and friends, traveling the world, and relaxing and entertaining with Bev in their “lake” house in downtown Chicago. He continued to serve extensively both in leadership and hands-on roles for many organizations as a good and faithful servant of the Lord. As important as his career and philanthropic endeavors were, Richard was also an exemplary and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and all-around family leader. He was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know him.
Beloved husband to Beverly of 55 years. Loving father of Lora (Marty) Clausen and the late Brian Moody. Proud papa to Anna, Thomas, and Matthew Clausen. Fond older brother to Ruth (late Robert) Tsu, David (Bonnie Kuslich) Moody, James (Shirley) Moody, Norman (Bobbi) Moody, and Lois (Curt) Sands.
