My name is Alicia Resnick, and I knew Sheila from the St. Scholastica Academy Alums group. Though I did not know her well, we all recognized that Sheila was a person with whom you wanted to be associated, and we were overjoyed when she joined us in our efforts to keep the school open. Though the times and the tides were against us, and the school closed, we were proud of the work we did together.
Sheila was simply a delight, and we all somehow knew that she was the kind of woman who exemplified what the Benedictine Sisters taught. I am sure many of our "Suzies" join me in sending you our condolences on your loss. She must have been quite a mother: she was one wonderful woman.
Sincerely,
Alicia

The late Maya Angelo once wrote" A woman of courage enters a room, and everyone is put at ease. There is something appealing in the way she walks and in the way she holds herself".Aunt Sheila was a woman of courageous! She had a smile that would light up a room and a heart that was overflowing. No matter how busy she was, she always took the time to listen.I love you aunt Sheila and will really miss you!! You will never be forgotten! Love to all my cousins, Barbie

Ii had the good fortune to work with Sheila while serving as an assistant village manager and as village manager of Wheeling in the 70’s and 80’s. Sheila personified good government. Not just good but fair, honest, transparent and above all ethical government. Sheila’s strong views about government did not always sit well with those I would disagree as “Good ole Boys” network.
I remember first meeting Sheila, (I think before she was elected) and feigning surprise that she was not the evil character she had been described as. We both had a good laugh and became lifelong friends.
Sheila had the uncanny ability to disagree with someone and not offend them in the process. Sheila’s strong personal values extended to her avocation of public service. At times Sheila and her family paid a personal price for her unwavering commitment to good governance.
While Sheila could get her ”Irish” her mantra to me was always “kill em with kindness”. This attitude prevailed throughout her public service.
Sheila was a wonderful mentor to me and brought Debbie and our children into her extended family.
While I extend my condolences to her loving family I really want to thank all them for sharing Sheila with the greater community for which we are all better off for her service.

Sheila was a wonderful colleague and board member of the Upper Des Plaines River Ecosystem Partnership and, earlier, Des Plaines River Alliance, as well as other conservation groups. My late cousins and her Tri Phi friends Jeanne Shannon and Katie Perry know I would much prefer to sing at a traditional funeral mass, not just give a voyageur’s salute as the caravan passed St Joseph the Worker. Requiescat in Pace, Sheila!

Thank you, Paul! Mom would have preferred your singing at her funeral as well, but your salute was very special and meaningful next to the church and creek that she loved! I know she is also loving her reunion with special Tri Phi friends who are together once again. Best wishes and be well, Kathy

I met Sheila when I was appointed to serve on the Board of the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC). As an experienced fellow Commissioner, she guided and mentored me. She was smart and compassionate. She taught me a lot about being a public servant. The sadness I feel upon hearing of her passing is offset by the many warm memories she has left me with. The other tributes I read here today only confirm what I already knew - Sheila Schultz was a wonderful woman. A public servant of whom we can all be proud. A person we can all love. To the Schultz family, I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing her with us. Art Hill

Aunt Sheila was a most wonderful Person, Mother, Aunt, and Mayor! Aunt Sheila was so kind, compassionate, caring, happy, energetic, optimistic but most importantly everyone loved Aunt Sheila because Aunt Sheila had such a big heart that I truly believe she loved everyone! I remember randomly seeing Aunt Sheila while I was in Springfield on business and Aunt Sheila was performing her mayoral duties. It was so wonderful to see her loving smile and talk with her. Aunt Sheila could talk to everyone about everything but more important Aunt Sheila was such a wonderful listener and actually cared! Aunt Sheila lived a brilliant life! She was a great Mother, Aunt, Friend to everyone and so successful in making Wheeling IL into such a great community. So much intelligence, energy, and caring made Aunt Sheila the greatest Mayor! Aunt Sheila is smiling and watching over all of you cousins. I wish I could have given her one more big hug and I want to give all of my wonderful cousins a big hug! God bless Aunt Sheila and all of you! I love Aunt Sheila and all of you very very much!

I have been very blessed to have had Aunt Sheila in my life. She was my godmother and inspired me in so many ways including how to treat one another, love of faith and family. She gave me a wooden rosary from Jerusalem when I was young that was given to her when she was in the 8th grade. I will forever think of my beloved aunt whenever I pray that rosary. Jesus has called you home Aunt Sheila where you will have no more pain or sorrows. What a wonderful thought for such a wnderful person.

Remember how dedicated she was to her community when I was covering Wheeling for the Daily Herald. Truly one of the leaders who helped to shape the Northwest suburbs and a respected example of leadership. I found a photo from one of my old Wheeling clippings from back in the day and thought I would share the image of one her finest moments.

Carolyn, you are so kind to remind us of Mom's accomplishments throughout her public service career. She really was one of a kind and a wonderful role model for seeing government service as the honorable commitment it is and always should be.I will miss our daily conversations about local, state and world events but am counting on her continuing participation in guiding us to do things right! Thanks again and be well! Kathy

Later I found we shared Avenues for Independence as a passion.
Thank you for your friendship. We will meet again, I'm positive.

I met Shiela when she visited Field School to participate in a Boy Scout event that my son was involved in...more than 30 years ago. Since then she always recognized me and smiled and said hello when we would pass each other in a store or other public place. I always thought she was lovely and gracious. She did a lot for Wheeling and will be missed. My condolences to her entire family.

Aunt Sheila Schultz always offered a wonderfully gracious welcome to all of us in her extended family in Missouri and Arizona!
She would open her house for us to stay as we may be traveling through the Chicago area for vacation or work.
And, during our visits, Aunt Sheila would always sit with us and join us in such engaging and delightful conversations!
A special story on such a visit: I was travelling to Chicago for a work assignment with my colleague, Stephen Walker.
Aunt Sheila invited me and my colleague for dinner one evening. She and several other family members joined us for a truly wonderful evening of great conversation and great humor! Aunt Sheila shared with my colleague, Stephen, that he was always welcome to visit at anytime .... that he was now part of the extended family!!
Stephen shared with me on our drive back home to St. Louis that he was overwhelmed with such warm hospitality and joy!
We love you Aunt Sheila..... We will miss you so very, very much !!
But, we know your family believes and lives the same loving care and welcoming spirit you offered to each and every one of us!

Growing up in Wheeling, Mrs. Schultz was one of our neighborhood moms that made us a community by sharing her love, wisdom, beautiful smile, and occassionally a (well deserved) stern look. She was a wonderful and caring friend to my mother for many, many years. We were full of pride knowing her as our village president. May God bless her now with his grace. Peace be with the Schultz family and thank you for sharing your mom with so many. The Herrons on Mors Avenue.
