My introduction to my wife Tina's Aunt June was at one of the Popke family Thanksgiving dinners in 1977. Myself, not having any aunts/uncles/cousins locally growing up, I could not believe the dozens of family and friends who showed up to their home that day. Having only met Tina the month before, I could have felt out of place and intimidated by the huge gathering of people I had never met, but I remember 'Aunt June' making me feel welcome right away and asking 'Uncle Tom' to show me where I could get a drink. No worries, this family knew how to party and have fun and I was officially invited into the family at large!
And that was the first of so many family gatherings that June and Tom hosted or attended that I will never forget. Those annual Thanksgiving dinner parties, the gatherings around their basement bar with lots of drinks and laughter, many summer days and nights around their backyard pool on Garden Lane, the Saturday night poker games at Rita and Tony's house with the Pagano's and the Popke's, the gatherings at Market Square where several tables always had to be pushed together to accommodate everyone. In the middle of it all I always see Aunt June with her smile and laughter and her love for life, her selfless generosity, and her happy heart. We will all miss her dearly.

There is nothing that can prepare you for the loss of your Mother, no matter how old you are. My condolences go out to all three of you girls as well as the rest of her family. I have such great memories of June from Naples wine thirties to Market Square and Erica's Octoberfests in Wheeling. What a fun loving lady, always smiling and laughing, having a good time. She loved my husband Bruce, called him Brucie and he called her Junie! She will be missed not only by her family but her friends as well. Although the pain is raw right now, it will be replaced in the future with smiles and stories never forgotten!

Aunt June was a spectacular woman who provided many memories for our family. My children’s memories center on their childhood at Aunt June and Uncle Tom’s home. We were so fortunate to have Aunt June, her love and generosity is like no other. We will miss her but know she is now with Uncle Tom, the love of her life and resting in heavenly peace.
