Obituary of Mathilda Grodecki

Mathilda Mary Jane Grodecki nee Billick age 93 of Chicago entered into eternal life on May 30, 2013 after bravely battling cancer. Mathilda was one of 8 children of Ignatius and Victoria Kathleen Billick, born in Niles, Illinois. She was married to the late John Robert Grodecki for 56 years, living in Chicago where she was an instructor of seamstresses. Mathilda was an active member of St. Hyacinth Church and the parent associations through Madonna High School. She loved the Girl Scouts and remained Treasurer of her daughter’s troop until awarded her 25 year pin. Mathilda was passionate about family, women’s advocacy and travel. She traveled with her daughters’ families throughout Europe and the Americas. She is survived by 4 daughters, Marilyn (Roger) Glen, Kathleen (Patrick) Elliott, Patricia Grodecki M.D. and Janet (Eric) Jacobson; grandmother of Erik Elliott, Heather (Louis) Melancon, Ryan and Alessandra DeFranco and Monique, Victoria and Justin Jacobson; Anne Marie Glen; great-grandmother of Eloise and L. Theodore Melancon. Sister of Jeanette Bachleda. Visitation Monday 3-8 pm Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave (2 Blocks South of Dundee Road) Wheeling. Funeral Prayers 9:15 am Tuesday at the funeral home for a 10 am Life Celebration Mass at St. Mary Church, 10 N Buffalo Grove Rd, Buffalo Grove. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
