Richard Lawrence Idstein was born on September 11, 1925 in Chicago, IL to late Anne Mae (Schagemann) and late Joseph Idstein. Beloved husband Geraldine Idstein for 73 years. Loving father Kathleen (Thomas) Lyons, James (Lynn) Idstein, and Donald (Mary) Idstein. Dear grandfather of Roy, Katie (Steve), Brian (Jeanah), Karen (Freddie), Monica, and Joseph. Great grandfather of Heather, Shannon, Charlotte, Kevin, Anne Marie, Jordan, and Taylor. Fond brother of late Robert (late Rita) Idstein, and the late Joseph (late Ruby) and late John “Jack” (late Mary) Idstein. Uncle and cousin of many.
Richard - Veteran of WWII “Battle of Bulge” Purple Heart, Bronze Star, European Metal; Served in the Army 106th Division, 424th Infantry Regiment, Company C; Joined Knights of Columbus in Chicago in 1943 and later transferred to Buffalo Grove, served as 4th degree Knight; Retired (1989) School Teacher (25 yrs.) Cumberland School Des Plaines, IL 5 & 6 grades; Usher St. Mary Catholic Church – Buffalo Grove, 1980 to 2017; First recipient of Buffalo Grove Historical Raupp Memorial Museum volunteer award, July 1993.
Visitation Monday 3-8 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. (2 Blocks South of Dundee Road). Visitation will continue at St. Mary's Tuesday at 10 am followed by an 11 am Life Celebration Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, Buffalo Grove, IL. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Buffalo Grove, IL.
