Obituary of Peggy L. Rash
Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peggy Lou Touchstone (Rash) was born October 17, 1939 and passed away November 18, 2022. She was the 3rd of twelve children and was raised on a farm in Bay, Arkansas.
After high school, she moved to Memphis to start a career and shortly after married Robert Rash, an active-duty corpsman in the Marine Corps. The military moved them to Santa Anna/Costa Mesa California where they had their first child Robert Wesley.
After military discharge, they moved to northern IL where her remaining children, Stacy DeAnn and Richard Norton were born and raised in Deerfield.
Robert and Peggy divorced years later and Peggy began working at Underwriters Laboratories in the Fire Protection Division. She retired 30 years later after a varied and satisfying career there as a member of their Corporate Human Resources. After Robert and Stacy graduated from college and while she was still working at UL, Peggy went to college herself and received an Associate’s Degree in Business from the College of Lake County. She graduated with honors even though her boss and other family members said she couldn’t finish her degree.
In her retirement, she volunteered at the Chicago Botanic Gardens until she had to turn her focus on her wellbeing and began peritoneal dialysis.
Sundays were for church and she found a home at Northfield United Methodist in Northbrook, IL because their moto was “Love Grows Here”. She met many friends there and she enjoyed spending time with people who have a steadfast love for God. She volunteered her time there sorting and delivering food for the food bank, audio recording the sermons, organizing and participating in the crop walk fundraiser, and leading the children’s sermons.
Peggy felt that the most challenging but rewarding job she ever had was raising her three children. In addition to her employment and child rearing, she enjoyed working around her house, tending to her flower gardens and occasionally traveling to both coasts to visit friends and relatives.
She is survived by many siblings, children and grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 12-5 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S Milwaukee Ave (2 Blocks South of Dundee Rd), Wheeling. A life celebration will be held at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to North Northfield United Methodist will be greatly appreciated.
