Gordon L Johnson age 83 of Buffalo Grove. Beloved husband of Judie nee Hehmeyer for 50 years. Loving dad of Michael (Kerri) Johnson, Michelle (Kevin) Kruse and Matthew (Amy) Johnson. Dear grandpa of Hannah, McKenna, Kelly, Jake, Kate, and Sierra. Fond brother in-law of Gayle (Tom) Peterson and Ann (Lyle) Tracy. Uncle of Alissa, Jennifer and Caitlyn. Gordon grew up in the Chicagoland area attending Lutheran Memorial Church and Lane Technical High School. Upon graduation he earned an appointment to the US Naval Academy, where he became a proud member of the Class of ’54 in the 2nd Company. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the US Air Force and flew in All-Weather Fighter/Interceptors. Upon completion of multiple tours of duty throughout the United States and his service commitment, he resigned his commission and moved back to Chicago where he attended the University of Chicago to complete his MBA. He met his future bride, Judie, at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago. They married in 1965 and moved to Buffalo Grove to begin raising their family. Gordon was very active in his church and community, volunteering as an usher, elder, coach and election judge. His greatest community passion was collecting food from local grocery stores for redistribution to the hungry in Wheeling Township and the Uptown Ministries of Chicago. Visitation Sunday, September 14th at 1:30 pm at St Matthew Lutheran Church (www.stmatts.net), 24480 N. Old McHenry Road, Hawthorne Woods, IL 60047 followed by a 2:30pm Life Celebration.
