Justin HongSub Byun passed away peacefully at his home Buffalo Grove on November 25, 2018 at the age of 81. He was the oldest son of Ho-Yoon Byun, the founder of Korean conglomerate Hwa-il electric power company. He was a graduate of Kyungki. Justin HongSub was a CEO of the Hwa-il construction company during the 60’s and 70’s. He was one of the main contributors to achieve the ‘miracle of Han River’ in Korea; the current highway systems in Korea were built by his company and the first hydroelectric power dam was built in SoYang and Choonchun, South Korea. He came to California in 1982 with his wife and four children. He became a consultant to a law firm and served as an advisory committee member at Chicago cosmetic surgery from 1998 to 2008. He was an author and philanthropist; his ‘BYUN Foundation’ serves people in need of reconstructive surgery.

Justin was the loving husband of Teresa nee Choi. Devoted father of Michael (Grace), Julia (Douglas) Min, Dolly (Yohan) Chun and Sylvia (Angel) Yu. Cherished grandfather of Hannah, Abegail, Michael Justin, Christopher, Joseph, Crystal, Eric, David, Irene, Alice, Andrew and Erin. Dear brother of Soon Ok, Soon Kum, the late Hong Joon, and Hong Sik. Visitation Saturday from 11am until 12:30pm. Life Celebration service Saturday 12:30pm at Kolssak Funeral Home 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. Wheeling, IL. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery.
