Played ball for two or three summers with Billy and like others will always remember how he could seemingly hit the ball twice as far as anyone else. He could have taught MLBers about launch angles long before it became the norm over the last decade. Very sorry to hear about his passing and sending my well wishes to all his family and friends.

I’ve known Billy since first grade. A standout athlete in every sport he played. I looked up to him especially in baseball, I went to Loyola because of him, and used his achievements as a goal for me to shoot for. A very, very humble man. After his titanic home runs he would hit from Daniel Wright all the way through high school, he would come in the dugout after rounding the bases with a soft smile and just sit down. I can still see his stance in the batters box, graceful sway back and forth waiting on the pitch, and the beauty of his swing when he would unload on a pitch and the distance the ball would travel when he connected is something to behold. I remember when I was finally able to hit it over the fence at Daniel Wright I was so happy. Then Billy takes batting practice. From the left field fence to the woods line is about 60’. He would drive them over the fence and high into the tops of the trees in the woods. It went against the law of physics and was not humanly possible. But he consistingly did it. I have countless memories that I could write forever. Humble, relaxed, always the first to hug me when I came back and we haven’t seen each other for awhile. His big brother love and protection for Molly and little Meg. Returning from road trip games with your dad and eating “Bizzy’s” peanut butter chocolate balls. I can go on and on. Families and kids have separated us over the last 10-15 years only seeing each other a few times, but you came to my fathers funeral last year and it meant the world to me. I love you and miss you Billy. May our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ take care of you now. McCarte family I pray for you guys daily. Christina I pray for you and the kids, I can’t even imagine how hard this must be.
