Ron and I became friends through our mutual love of the saxophone and music. I think we first met playing as first calls for Ringling Bros. circus in 1981 where I was lead and he played tenor replacing a guy fired for incompetence and we were repeatedly called by them for shows in the area . We went on to play for a number of years together in the Pekin Muni, now Pekin Park Concert Band, where he was a fixture on alto and we visited a lot a rehearsals and concerts (always attended by Norma Jean) about my sax study in France and now as a college professor, performer, and Selmer Paris saxophone artist/clinician; his time at Bradley as a student; his time with the Lombardo orchestra; and his time in Europe with Norma while in service band. He was a pretty terrific man who played well and was so devoted to family about whom he spoke so often and lovingly. After his move from E. Peoria we visited by phone a number of times and then had a good visit at Norma's memorial in E. Peoria. After that I kind of lost track of him and have often wondered how he was doing. My prayers are with you and I hope you can find comfort memories and in the love he had for you and the faith I know he had that Jesus gives us victory over sin, death and grave. Keith Zimmerman, professor of saxophone, Bradley U. and former professor at Illinois Wesleyan.
