Warren R. Sedlacek age 94 of Riverwoods, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Joan S. Sedlacek nee Southworth. Loving father of Martha (Richard) Riemenschneider and Paul (Cindy) Sedlacek. Adored grandfather of Malinda Riemenschneider, Laura, Eric, and Sarah Sedlacek. Cherished special friend of Ami Gulcheeva. Loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Warren grew up in Riverside, IL, attending Riverside-Brookfield High School. He enrolled at Purdue University, graduating in 1945 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a commission of Ensign after 3 years in the Navy's wartime V-12 program. Warren served in the Navy at the end of World War II, the Naval Reserve and again in the Korean war, on a destroyer escort, the USS Edmunds as a Lt. gunnery officer. During his time in the Korean War, he was stationed in Honolulu where he met Joan. They married and settled in Chicago in 1953. He rejoined UOP, the oil refining and petrochemical technology company he had started with after World War II spending 44 years there, completing his career as Senior Vice President of Marketing. Throughout his career, he travelled extensively and made many friends around the world.
Warren was a lifetime Mason attaining the 32nd degree. He had a love of sailing and sailboat racing which he shared with his family and friends. Friends and family knew him as a jack of all trades who could fix almost anything. He developed great skill with computers after retirement and spent hours a day till the end working on his computer. Warren was also a diehard Boilermaker and in 2011 established an Engineering Scholarship at Purdue; helping numerous engineering students to achieve their goals.
Memorial visitation Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 11 am to 1 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S Milwaukee Ave (2 Blocks South of Dundee Rd), Wheeling.
